При написании эссе/сочинения студентам рекомендуется ознакомиться с информацией справочного характера об основных видах письменных работ и образцами их оформления (Appendix II уч. Костыгиной С.И. и др.). Предварительно следует составить список изученных слов по теме, чтобы затем методично его употреблять. Сочинение состоит из трех частей:

1. An opening paragraph (Introduction). Во вводной части производится постановка вопроса. Студент поясняет осознание проблемы и ее важности. В зависимости от темы можно проиллюстрировать ситуацию цитатой выдающегося человека, пословицей, поговоркой, афоризмом и т.д.

Полезные фразы:

I would like to begin the discussion on the subject by ...The issue at stake here is…

The problem / issue / phenomenon of… is / has always been…, People always say / have always thought / agreed /said / believed…, It is a crucial/ controversial / burning / hot question…, There is no agreement…

From the point of view of ... First of all/above all…

Additionally ... It has been pointed out that... Just for the record…. To say nothing of…

One should take into consideration that…/ One should take into account that..

2. The main body. В основной части раскрываются разные мнения на поставленный вопрос. Отмечаются достоинства и недостатки какого-либо аспекта. Студент аргументированно обосновывает свою точку зрения. Можно обогатить сочинение яркими примерами из собственного опыта, знакомых, художественных произведений и т.д.

Полезные фразы:

Many people think … but others do not agree.

Let us start by considering the facts.

Let us consider what the advantages and disadvantages of … are./ Let’s consider some pros and cons of it./ Let's just run through the arguments for and against

The first/the second/the third reason… Firstly, ... / Secondly, ... / Finally, . . First and foremost ..

For this reason…/ Another good thing about … is that .. ./ The second reason for ... .

I'd just like to say ... / I think, (suppose, guess, believe, dare say, feel, presume, assume that ... ...

Personally I believe ...In my opinion (view) ...As I see it .../ The way I see it ...Well, my opinion is that.../ As far as I am concerned… / This is my way of looking at it.

I don't think it would ... There's one more thing to be noted… One should, nevertheless, consider the problem from another angle.

There are a number of disadvantages / weaknesses / drawbacks / downsides… It goes without saying that…It is out of the question that…There is a grain of truth in the fact that…

Подкрепить свою мысль можно мнением (неких абстрактных) экспертов.

Experts believe that ... /suggest that …/are convinced that … / point out that … / emphasize that..

According to some experts...

Perhaps we should also point out the fact that .. / It would be unfair not to mention that fact that

We cannot ignore the fact that ... / One cannot possibly accept the fact that ... .

From these facts, one may conclude that ... / Which seems to confirm the idea that ...

Thus, ... / Therefore,... / The most common argument against this is that ... .

3. A closing paragraph (Conclusion). В заключительной части студент приходит к определенному мнению, подводя итог вышесказанному.

On top of that .../ Something else I'd like to say is ...

There's nothing like ...

I don't quite see what people find in .../ I don't know anything more exciting than ...

Generally speaking ... Frankly (speaking)…

All in all… In conclusion … To sum up… To conclude … In short/in brief… To draw the conclusion, one can say that … In a nutshell…. All things considered I must say that....To cut a long story short…

So it’s up to everybody to decide whether … or not.

The arguments we have presented ... suggest that ... / prove that ... / would indicate that ... . / From these arguments one must ... / could... / might ... conclude that ... .

Для соединения смысловых частей сочинения можно использовать такие фразы, как:

Talking of... / In spite of…Moreover ... More than that… Besides… By all means/ By no means/ What's more ..By the way…The point is… Then… On the one hand…On the other hand…Finally… Therefore…. After all… If I’m not mistaken…In other words…On the contrary… It is often said that ... . It is a well-known fact that ... . Furthermore, one should not forget that ... Despite this, In spite of this; In fact/ As a matter of fact/ As a result… Consequently.
